Three weeks ago, Art Paris Art Fair 2015 welcomed under the nave of Grand Palais Singaporean eight galleries, including STPI gallery. According to them, what is the track record of this fair, for them and the Singaporean Art Market ?
STPI (located next to Clarke Quay) is an internationally renowned space in Singapore for conceptual developments in contemporary art practice in print and paper. STPI Creative Workshop offers a dynamic residency programme for leading artists from around the world to experiment and push the boundaries of artistic creation with alternative methods and materials. STPI was on the G1 booth at Art Paris Art Fair, on the side of Singaporean guests of honor.
The STPI gallery exposed at Art Paris Art Fair a unique and varied selection of prints by established artists Han Sai Por (Singapore), Heman Chong (Singapore), Eko Nugroho (Indonesia), Rirkrit Tiravanija (Thailand) and Haegue Yang (Korea).
HASHT-ART : It was the first time for your gallery at Art Paris Art Fair in Paris ?
STPI : Yes it was – we were part of the Singapore guest of honour section together with 7 other galleries.
HASHT-ART : According to you, the Singaporean art market has been presented with success at the fair ?
STPI : This was a great opportunity for the selected Singaporean galleries to introduce a French and European audience to Southeast Asian art.
HASHT-ART : What has it brought to the Parisian market ?
STPI : By exposing the Parisian market to artworks from the Southeast Asian region, we hope it has sparked the interest and curiosity of the public.
HASHT-ART : In another direction, what has the Parisian art market brought to the Singaporean market ?
STPI : The fact that APAF singled out Singapore as a guest of honour is a real testament to the significance of the Southeast Asian art market on a global level.
HASHT-ART : During the preparation for the fair and of your booth, what were your expectations ? Your aims ?
STPI : The only other European fair that we participate in is Basel Basel but we acknowledge this is a very different market and for STPI, it is a chance to reach out to a client base beyond the realms of Basel.
HASHT-ART : After these days at the fair, have you achieved these aims ? What are your feelings about this fair ?
STPI : Selling Singaporean artist Han Sai Por’s ‘Topography’ print to French collectors and knowing that we have expanded our collector base to France was a definite highlight for us at the fair.
HASHT-ART : What point of view do you remember from your participation at Art Paris Art Fair ? (about pieces of art, artists, events, sales, etc.)
STPI : It was a real honour to see STPI, together with a number of other Singaporean galleries, singled out as guests of honour at a fair which is dominated by European exhibitors.
