Tomorrow at A2Z Art Gallery in Paris, the chinese artist Li Donglu will present his new works by a new exhibition entitled “Surimpression”, in the heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Près district. Who is this artist ? What’s his artistic approach ?
Who are he ?
Li Donglu (李东陆) was born in 1982 in Guangdong Province, China, and lives and works in Paris since 2004. From 2002 to 2004, she studied at the School of Fine Arts in Canton, China, and from 2006 to 2008 at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Versailles, France. “Surimpression” is the first solo exhibition that the artist will show at A2Z Art Gallery, and the second in Paris (in 2011 she exhibited at the gallery Mendes with “Pandora”, another solo exhibition).
What’s his artistic approach ?
A kind, a ruin organic elements taken from the stream of pictures, suffered by Li Donglu. While that seems frantic scrolling, the artist lives, and doesn’t perceive the time scale as the common man. Severely tested our senses are very often called, diluting the intensity of every moment. Accustomed to a pictures bulimia, we don’t appreciate the time that through our screens. We archive our memories too quickly, without taking the time to live them again by our impressions. An image replacing the other, is superimposed on the other.
Then, Li Donglu opens his eyes and takes these afterimages that combines various outstanding current events. It superimposes, interweaves, and created his enigmatic works. The oil that requires time incompressible drying represents a decompression chamber allowing time for reflection. The artist gives this aspect nebulous in his works in order to snap the viewer into its supers like to freeze the fleeting time.
The question is if we should continue to follow this frantic pace, consume all pictures that eventually escape and represent only distant memories, despite the immediacy of the event.
For this new exhibition, Li Donglu explores visions that lead us into a timeless witness of his moods, fragments of souls. His work is meditative or therapeutic, but the proposed topics are signs of an conditioned educational to consume more and more, faster and faster, until exhaustion, until the destruction… It’s up to us to follow the path of the artist and to find our bearings in this space-time, a second wind, a ray of hope …
