LU CHAO, his first solo exhibition in Paris

From April 14 2016, Galerie Nathalie Obadia exhibits Lu Chao’s art works, for the first time in Paris. The exhibition ‘Black Light‘ is immersed us in his singular universe, between metaphor and reflection on society.

LU CHAO (born in 1988 in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China), is graduated in 2012 from Oil Painting Department (Bachelor of Art), at Central Academy of Fine Arts of Beijing. And in 2014 Graduated from Painting Department (Master of Art), Royal College of Art of London. Now, he lives and works in London.

At Galerie Nathalie Obadia, he exhibits a set of oil and ink on canvas in black and white (main mediums), as well as particular objects. Lu Chao shows in his works a strange universe, combining Nature and small enigmatic characters. The characters are compressed in tight spaces, with or without faces, or as small as ants, reduced to an uncertain future. Or lost in the forest illuminated by a “black light”.

Lu Chao told about your work : “I always like to observe each person trying to squeeze his way in a crowd of people, because I know very well that I am just like them, and looking at each of their faces I seem to be looking at myself. I always think that each face can tell a story, the story of an experience already past or a prediction of an event about to happen. All the small black people in my paintings are my response to all the strangers I have encountered in my life”.

Deep admirer of traditional Chinese thought and its painters, Lu Chao finds also a referral system in Western philosophy and the work of the masters of European painting and American Abstract as Jackson Pollock.

An emerging artist to discover for the first time in France for his solo exhibition until May 21, 2016.
