Spring 2017, Galerie Perrotin opens its new exhibition space in Tokyo. After Hong Kong and Seoul, the french gallerist continues his expansion in Asia.
The Perrotin empire expands in Tokyo, with an open space of 130 m2, renovated and designed by architect Andre Fu / AOM, on the ground floor of the Piramide building, in the heart of the cultural district of Roppongi .
According to a post on Instagram, the French dealer describes the district as “a cultural and vibrant neighborhood,”. The area is also home to the Mori Art Museum, the Suntory Museum of Art, the National Art Center, and several other galleries.
Opening a gallery in Japan is a logical step for the dealer, who has promoted numerous Asian artists over his 25-year career. Emmanuel Perrotin exhibits an important selection of japanese artists, as the famous japanese artist Takashi Murakami (presented by the french gallery since 1993). His roster also includes Aya Takano, Mr., Chen Fei, Chung Chang-Sup, Park Seo-Bo, Xu Zhen, and Bharti Kher.
According to the gallery website, Perrotin has opened 15 spaces since opening his first gallery in 1989. Today the Frenchman operates seven active spaces, with four in Paris, one in New York, one in Hong Kong, and one in Seoul. The inauguration of the new Tokyo gallery will bring the total to eight in 2017.
