Based in Dijon, Bourgogne, the chinese artist Yan Pei-Ming exhibits his new work at the Niepce Museum. His “girls” were realized in the reserves of Niepce Museum of Chalon-sur-Saône. They are exposed, and the artist himself supervised the installation.
Three months after his great exhibition at the Villa Medici in Rome, the Nicephore Niepce Museum of Chalon-sur-Saône, Yan Pei-Ming gives carte blanche to work from photos selected from its reserves. The exhibition called “Yan Pei-Ming d’après photo” will be exhibited until January 15, 2017.
This dialogue between photos and painting is the opportunity to discover a new facet of the Yan Pei-Ming’s skills. The Chinese painter is considered one of the greatest contemporary painters of our time.
“We provided a panel around 4000 pictures on themes such as women, sex, erotic picture. After that, he made his choice himself, and isolated about it” said Caroline Lossent, in charge of public services of museums Chalon-sur-Saône.
These photos serve as medium for creativity Yan Pei-Ming. The artist isolates these faces, assembles, dissolves the decor. “I didn’t want to make something true to the photo, it wasn’t the aim,” admits Yan Pei-Ming. Paradoxically, photography who buried the portrait becomes in this exhibition a rehabilitation tool.
